Comparing
Vegetarian And Non-Vegetarian Food
It’s an age old debate over vegetarian and
non-vegetarian foods. It is really difficult to make either of the two understood that, the other one is good!
But for the sake of further discussion, let’s first understand what are the vegetarian’s food and
non-vegetarian’s food.
And which is good for a healthy living? Of late, we heard a lot about the newly born diseases, the source for which
are animal foods. Some of the examples are; Bird Flue, Mad Cow, Swine Flue etc. And the most important thing is,
there is no guaranteed cure for any of these diseases.
The only way is precaution. So that’s what made people thinking more about vegetarian foods. Now, let’s talk about
vegetarian food. It is a common myth that, all the vegetarians think and act alike! Actually, there are four
different types of vegetarians exists. They are; vegans, semi-vegetarian, lacto-ovo-vegetarian and
lacto-vegetarians. Vegans are the kind of vegetarians we normally refer to.
They completely stick to vegetables, fruits and other green foods through out their life. But they never consume
anything that is anyway related to animals! The semi-vegetarians are the second type of vegetarians. They are a
little different of the vegans. Like vegans, they don’t eat meats however; they do consume sea foods like fishes
and poultry products like chicken and ducks. Lacto-ovo-vegetarians are the third kind of vegetarians. These kind of
vegetarians do consume cow milk, egg and cheese other than the vegetarian foods. But they never eat meat
products.
The last one is Lacto-vegetarian who consumes only vegetables, fruits and milk. Beside the above four types of
vegetarians, there are another breed of vegetarians who not only restricts them from eating animal products but
also make sure that, they should not use products made up of animal skin, fur. Even they prohibit themselves from
consuming processed foods as that also mixed up with some sort of bacteria. Now the question is why vegetarians
avoid so much of animal products?
We can find the answer to this question through philosophical and religious believes. In Buddhism and Hinduism, it
is a sin to eat animal products. According to the followers of these religions, all the animals and humans are the
creation of God. If you are hurting any of the Gods made lives, for the pleasure of yours, it will be counted as a
sin. They are also a strong believer of re-incarnation.
So, their holy book also suggests that, if you involve yourself in such kind of sins, you have to pay for that by
taking again and again birth in the earth. And you never will come out of the cycle of life and death. Either you
believe in the religious things or not; one thing is sure, vegetables are sufficient to make our stomach full and
from the scientifically point of view, all the vegetarian foods are of low cholesterol and fats compared to
non-vegetarian foods. Think about it.
