The
Health Benefits Of Coffee
Coffee is one of the most popular beverages.
Millions of people world over drink it with pleasure and pride. The history of coffee dates back to centuries.
As much as four centuries back, coffee was described as gold of ordinary man.
It was also treated as imparting a sense of luxury and nobility to those who drink coffee. Such evaluations remain
unchanged even now. Any numbers of varieties of coffee are available in the market at present. One brand varies
from another in qualities, color and tastes. Coffee bean grows in the equatorial region.
Only a very small area called the coffee belt is suitable for coffee growth. High altitude and appropriate warmth
are ideal for the successful growth of coffee. The production of coffee has recently got reduced considerably due
to the abnormal weather conditions and drought situation developed in the coffee belt.
Global warming is supposed to have been responsible for the abnormal rise in temperature which is unsuitable for
coffee production. Anyhow, the depreciation in production has led to the appreciation in cost of this common man’s
gold. This situation is expected to follow next year also without change. It is interesting to note that the
popularity of coffee remains unchanged even though the cost has increased.
People are not at all discouraged by the cost escalation. They can not do away with the habit of drinking coffee in
any unfavorable circumstances. Arabica bean and Robusta bean are the two significant brands of coffee popular among
coffee users worldwide. These two varieties differ in taste, color and look considerably. Robusta is bitter than
Arabica and is widely used in Asia. The westerners generally consume Arabica brand which is less bitter and
healthier than Robusta. Different processes are used for roasting coffee beans.
The taste of coffee is determined mainly by the method adopted for roasting it. The original color of a coffee bean
is green. When roasted the color changes gradually to dark. It becomes darker and darker as the time of roasting
increases. The beans roasted for longer period of time would taste bitter than those roasted for lesser
time.
The possibility of losing the useful elements included in coffee also increases with the period of roasting it.
Milder roasting guarantees better taste. Lightly roasted coffee ensures better health too. Weather is the
determining factor of ensuring sufficient supply of coffee to the coffee lovers in every nook and corner of the
planet.
