What Is The Raw Food Diet About?

Did you hear that people are currently moving towards a Raw Food Diet? It is really becoming popular and not just as a diet plan for weight reduction, but as a lifelong eating plan for a healthy life.

We have a habit of eating so much junk food that we don't really take the time to consider what we are putting in our bodies, plus how far away we have drifted away from our former generation's roots. A raw food diet consists of natural food in pure form.

There are various reasons supporting this as a good idea. Some nutrients are lost when food is processed and cooked. Consider some old sayings that you have heard for a long time, like: If pasta is cooked al dente or to a medium consistency, it is higher in calories, plus it is more nutritious than if you cooked it a longer time until it is well done.

Also you may remember hearing that you should not peel all the skin off of vegetables because most of the vitamins and minerals are just beneath the surface. A raw food diet is similar to how the ancient generations ate. Our ancestors were more healthy and in better shape. They rarely cooked anything, especially fruits and vegetables. They consumed them raw. They didn't drink tap water; they drank pure, spring water. They probably drank coconut milk every now and then.

A raw food diet includes uncooked, pure, whole foods, like fresh or dried fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds, legumes, seaweed and other good foods. A minimum of 75% of the food is eaten without cooking. Cooking removes the flavor and nutrients from the vegetables and fruits. Doesn't it make good sense that this is the way our bodies were meant to be nourished. This is a way of eating that harmonizes with the earth as well as it works with our metabolism. Our bodies were made for activity, and work is required for effectiveness.

Exercise is important, of course, but eating raw foods that have not been processed is important because energy is needed for digestion. A raw food diet is a wonderful way for you and your family to live. Because the food's flavor is not washed away by cooking you will experience the real taste of the food. After you find out how it is you will be hooked and will not want to eat too much cooked food again. You will learn that a raw food diet is very good for you and delicious also.
